About the Business
My interest in photography began when I was 15 years old, when I was given my first 35mm SLR camera, and enjoyed experimenting with perspective. I have always been a creative and practical person, as some of my early jobs in life showed. I have been a chef, worked in tool hire shops and sold kitchens! At 20, I decided to go to night school to do a course in black and white photography. This is where I met Colin my tutor.
Colin worked at Leicester University, and taught at Leicester College as well. At the end of the course, Colin offered me a temporary job at the central photographic unit at the University. As a young man my interest in photography was parked for a while, as I discovered the joys of pubs, bars and nightclubs.
I then started work for Jessop's at the head office in Leicester, in their warehouse. I soon realised I wanted to work in the black and white photo lab and I quickly worked my way up. I most enjoyed hand printing, which I did for three years.
