About the Business

With my Midwestern American accent, it often comes as a surprise to discover that I grew up in South Yorkshire and NE Derbyshire. My accent comes from over two decades living in Minneapolis, Saint Paul and briefly in Chicago. Before leaving the USA, I spent the entire summer in Missoula, Montana completing an intensive photography training course at Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP is co-owned by Neil Chaput de Saintonge, himself a student and assistant to Ansel Adams).

RMSP made me realise how light makes the photograph. great training in studio lighting means i'm no longer restricted to calling myself a "natural light photographer". i completed a bsc in it/graphics & multimedia (1st, at capella university), focusing on adobe's creative suite tools (photoshop, illustrator, flash). funnily enough, i also left with 13 kilts! it seems only appropriate that i now call scotland my home.

After being overseas for so many years, when I returned to the UK I noticed something missing. As a kid, it seemed like most of us had family photographs proudly on display. Even though most of us carry a camera nowadays (usually in our phone), we usually keep and share only candid snapshots and the robotic posed school portraits. What will todays kids have to show and cherish when they've grown up and Facebook is passé? Have you lost images taken only a decade ago?

I offer my photography services in portraits, personal branding headshots (actor or business), product and food photography. I'm also available for shooting editorial and commercial photography projects.

Events

I can provide my photography services for your events located within the Scottish Borders, Midlothian and surrounding regions. This includes meets, performances, company and charitable events.

Prices are based on your venue requirements and travel. Please note that I retain all copyright in my images, and expect permission to publish images via stock agencies.

Product & Commercial

Are you looking for photos of your work for advertising purposes? Brochures, leaflets and websites all reflect your company image. Good photography can make a huge impression on how your business is represented, and ultimately help sell more of your products.

Headshots and Personal Branding

Are you looking for a digital image of yourself for personal branding on the Internet, posters or publishing in your company literature? Are you a CEO or performing artist. Would you like personable images that show exactly how you want to present yourself to the world? Are you looking for someone to take individual headshots for a group within your company?

Headshots aren't the same as portraits, and take time to get the perfect looks you want. Unlike portraits, headshots are meant to be free of distractions - backgrounds should be clean. For this purpose I have black or white backgrounds (green screen and grey are also available). I would be happy to accommodate your requests.

Portraits

Are you looking for photographs for your wall, or for your family album? Would you like images of your kids, or your children now they've grown up? Are you looking for something a little different, like an online album to share with distant relatives? Knowing what you are looking for and how you intend to display these images is part of the personalised service I offer.

I work with the expectation that the shoot should last for upto 3 hours. When I take photos, the images are shown on my laptop screen to offer feedback to you. Setup and dismantling the studio equipment can take another hour in total.

What is in the portrait is really up to you. There are no markups for small groups or pets. I do photograph children, provided a parent or guardian is always there to help. I retouch all images to meet your requirements.
